We encourage families to continue learning at home through fun and simple activities that support your child’s development.
Syllable Clapping Game (Language and Literacy)
Ask your child to say a word while you clap the syllables and repeat the word slowly. Sometimes clap the wrong number of times and invite your child to correct you. Then switch roles and let your child clap while you say the word.
This activity builds early reading skills by helping children hear the sounds in words and recognize how words are broken into parts.
Sock Squeeze Breathing (Self Regulation)
Give your child a rolled up sock for each hand. Have them squeeze the socks while breathing in slowly to the count of three. As they breathe out, relax their hands to the count of three. Repeat several times together.
This calming activity helps children manage their emotions, focus their attention, and learn healthy ways to relax their bodies.
Community Helpers Talk (Social Studies)
While visiting places in your community, talk about the people who help others such as teachers, firefighters, police officers, librarians, store clerks, doctors, and veterinarians. Ask your child questions about what each person does.
This activity helps children understand community roles, build vocabulary, and develop social awareness.
